Samsung Galaxy Note II: what's changed?

Samsung Galaxy Note II what's changed

It's hard to believe that the word "phablet" has now been in our vocabulary for exactly a year. Perhaps even more difficult to believe is that it's still in our lexicon, but it doesn't look like the term is going anywhere anytime soon. Today, Samsung introduced the Galaxy Note II, a followup to the company's S-Pen equipped sleeper hit introduced at last year's IFA. But what does the sequel have that the original doesn't? Head below with us as we take a closer look at how the two devices compare.

Note: We'll continue filling out the chart as details surface.

Romney promises a better future, focus on jobs

TAMPA, Florida (Reuters) - Republican Mitt Romney will promise voters a better future on Thursday, urging them to set aside their disappointment in President Barack Obama and join him in rebuilding an economy that generates jobs and protects retirement security.

Taking center stage with his address to the Republican convention in Tampa, Florida, Romney vowed to be a champion for small business and restore a sense of innovation in America.

"To the majority of Americans who now believe that the future will not be better than the past, I can guarantee you this: if Barack Obama is re-elected, you will be right," Romney said in excerpts of his speech released by the campaign.

"I am running for president to help create a better future. A future where everyone who wants a job can find one. Where no senior fears for the security of their retirement," he said.

Romney's speech will be seen by a television audience numbering in the tens of millions, with some voters getting their first extended look at the former Massachusetts governor, who unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination in 2008.

Romney said he will intensely focus on creating new jobs and ridiculed Obama's promises from the 2008 campaign.

"What is needed in our country today is not complicated or profound. It doesn't take a special government commission to tell us what America needs. What America needs is jobs. Lots of jobs," Romney will say.

"President Obama promised to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet. My promise is to help you and your family," he said.

In his speech, Romney, who can often come across as stiff, must inspire fellow Republicans, many of whom have shown little passion for him, and make the broader electorate feel more comfortable with him.

As portrayed by Democrats, Romney, 65, is alternately a heartless corporate raider, wealthy elitist, tax evader and policy flip-flopper who should not be trusted with the keys to the White House.

But in a "bounce" for Romney from the three-day convention in Tampa, Florida, the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll showed him moving into a narrow lead over Obama -- 44 percent to 42 percent among likely voters. The Republican candidate had entered the week trailing Obama by four percentage points.

Movie star Clint Eastwood will bring a touch of Hollywood glamour to the convention, appearing as a surprise last-minute speaker to warm up the crowd for Romney, a Republican official said. Romney's speech will start at around 10:15 p.m. (0215 GMT).

Egypt president in Iran for first visit in decades

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? Egypt's President Mohammed Morsi arrived in Tehran on Thursday in the first visit by an Egyptian leader to Iran in decades.

The Egyptian president was attending a summit of the Nonaligned Movement, and is supposed to transfer leadership of the 120-nation bloc to Tehran.

Iran's state TV in a live broadcast showed Morsi being received by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the summit conference hall in Tehran.

Tehran cut diplomatic relations in 1979 because of Egypt's peace accord with Israel. Since the 1979 Islamic revolution, Iran has considered Israel as its arch foe.

Iran's leadership welcomed the 2011 uprising in Egypt that ultimately brought Morsi, an Islamist, to the presidency.

Representatives from more than 100 countries are attending.

Tehran has an ambitious agenda for the summit, including the launching of a peace effort including Egypt, Iran, and three other countries to help resolve the crisis in its key regional ally, Syria. But anti-regime fighters have dismissed any role for Iran in a plan they and some others say has little hope of succeeding.

Iran is also using the summit to counter U.S. claims that it has been isolated over its nuclear program. The West says Iran is trying to develop weapons while Tehran says the program is for peaceful purposes.

___

ONE FOR THE GIPPER

Nothing tugs at the hearts of the GOP faithful like invoking the name of the late Ronald Reagan. And Sen. Rand Paul didn't disappoint.

Paul recounted author Paul Kengor's story of an 11-year-old boy in a small Illinois town coming home from a basketball game at the local YMCA one night to find his father sprawled out in the snow, drunk, dead to the world.

"The boy stood over his father for a minute or two," said Paul. "He simply wanted to let himself in the door and pretend his dad wasn't there. Instead, he grabbed a fistful of overcoat and heaved his dad to the bedroom, away from the weather's harm and neighbors' attention."

And then the kicker:

"This young boy became the man ? Ronald Reagan ? whose sunny optimism and charisma shined so brightly that it cured the malaise of the late '70s, a confidence that beamed so broadly that it pulled us through a serious recession, and a faith that tugged so happily at all hearts that a generation of Democrats became Republicans."

A NATION OF IMMIGRANTS

America is a land of immigrants. And pride in that heritage has been all over the place during the last two nights of the GOP convention. Speaker after speaker told stories of family roots beyond America ? and of how the struggles faced by those immigrants helped forge their own values.

For New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, it was reminiscing about his Irish father and his Sicilian mother (she was the family's real force, he noted).

For South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, it was recounting how her Indian immigrant parents instilled in their children a deep gratitude that they were growing up in America.

And for South Dakota Sen. John Thune, it was the memory of how his grandfather ? one of two Norwegian brothers ? came to America in 1906 knowing how to say only two things in English, "apple pie and coffee."

At Ellis Island, immigration officials decided their last name ? Gjelsvik ? was too difficult and asked them to change it. They picked "Thune," the name of the farm where they worked in Norway.

"Like many Americans," Thune said, "I've been blessed by the hard work and sacrifice of those who've come before."

It was a refrain that filled the hall again and again.

"I think he's a rock star for the Republicans." ? Allie Burgin of Wynnewood, Okla.

"He'll definitely shake things up." ? Gary Inmon of San Antonia, Texas.

"We shouldn't be afraid of big ideas." ? Scott Baker of Willis, Texas, an alternate delegate who says Ryan bring big ideas on Medicare and Social Security.

"It's nice to have someone from my generation, and someone who's a Catholic, and a conservative. I can very much identify with him." ? Patrick Burns of Marietta, Ga.

LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON

Oops.

A copy of Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul's convention speech, emailed to reporters by organizers, incorrectly identified the speaker as Ron Paul, the Texas congressman who challenged Mitt Romney for the GOP presidential nomination.

Ron Paul, who is Rand' father, isn't speaking at the convention, though a video tribute to him was played for delegates Wednesday evening. Ron Paul said he has no plans to endorse Romney, and some of his supporters caused a stir on the convention floor Tuesday over new rules that could impede future insurgent candidates like Paul.

Convention organizers later sent out a corrected copy of the speech, just minutes after delegates watched a video featuring another Republican father-son duo: Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

BUSH MEMORIES

The two Bush presidents ? George H.W. and son George W. ? offered their personal recollections about their days in the White House in a video appearance at the Republican convention Wednesday night.

Neither man attended in person.

In the video, the son remembered a visit to the Oval Office by Russian President Vladimir Putin and how impressed he was. The father remembered former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Dana Carvey's imitations of him ? and a funny performance in the White House.

Also remembering their White House days and past conventions were first ladies Barbara Bush and Laura Bush.

RYAN A GOP DARLING

Paul Ryan takes the stage tonight as the Republican Party's vice presidential candidate and its darling. About a week after Mitt Romney named Ryan his running mate, an AP-GfK poll found that 63 percent of Republicans held a favorable impression of the congressman. Just 15 percent held an unfavorable one. Here's a look at which groups of Republicans hold him in particularly high esteem:

Conservative Republicans (70 percent favorable) give him rave reviews, including 47 percent who hold a "very favorable" opinion. That figure outpaces Romney's "very favorable" ratings among the group (37 percent).

Among moderate and liberal Republicans, 50 percent have a positive take on Ryan.

Tea party backers are particularly fond of Ryan. His favorability among supporters of that political movement stands at 79 percent.

Older Republicans (72 percent favorable among those age 45 and up) are more positive than Republicans of Ryan's own generation (53 percent among those under age 45).

___

RAND PAUL: NO FEAR

Sen. Rand Paul brought many delegates to their feet with a rousing call for both political parties to put aside fear and stand up for Americans' rights.

"Republicans and Democrats must replace fear with confidence ? confidence that no terrorist, and no country, will ever conquer us if we remain steadfast to the principles of our founding documents," said Paul, whose father is Rep. Ron Paul, the former presidential candidate with a pool of fervent followers.

"We have nothing to fear except our own unwillingness to defend what is naturally ours, our God-given rights," Rand Paul declared. "We have nothing to fear that should cause us to forget or relinquish our rights as free men and women."

His father, who carried 190 delegates at the GOP convention, didn't speak but was the subject of a tribute video.

___

MCCAIN STILL IN THE FIGHT

The GOP's 2008 presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, returned to the convention stage to excoriate Barack Obama for failing to back Iranians and Syrians who've given their lives in the fight against oppression.

McCain says the president missed a historic opportunity by failing to throw America's "full moral support" behind Iranian revolutionaries trying to oust "a brutal dictatorship that terrorizes the Middle East and threatens the world."

And he says Obama "is not being true to our values" when he abandons Syrians to "a savage and unfair fight."

"The demand for our leadership in the world has never been greater," McCain said. "People don't want less of America. They want more."

? Connie Cass ?Twitter http://twitter.com/ConnieCass

___

PUNISH RICH, HURT POOR

Sen. Rand Paul is criticizing President Barack Obama for proposing higher taxes on the wealthy, saying that punishing the rich hurts the middle class and the poor.

"Mr. President, you say the rich must pay their fair share. When you seek to punish the rich, the jobs that are lost are those of the poor and middle class," Paul said in his speech to the Republican national convention Wednesday. "When you seek to punish Mr. Exxon Mobil, you punish the secretary who owns Exxon Mobil stock. When you block the Keystone Pipeline, you punish the welder who works on the pipeline."

? Stephen Ohlemacher ? Twitter http://twitter.com/stephenatap

___

STAY AWAY, BROTHER

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says his brother, the former president, is smart to stay away from the Republican convention because he will just become more of a target for President Barack Obama.

"The president has spent a lot of time and energy around this notion that 'I can't do anything about it. It's all Bush's fault. You know I'm trying, but it's not working because it's Bush's fault,'" Bush told ABC News. "Now we're in year four of a presidency, think back into American history, think of a president that is blaming his predecessor in the fourth year. So why encourage the bad behavior and I think my brother is smart to stay away."

? Stephen Ohlemacher ? Twitter http://twitter.com/stephenatap

___

RUBIO TO GOP: FIX IMMIGRATION

The GOP can't be "simply the anti-illegal immigration party," says Marco Rubio, a Latino Republican with a prominent role at the national convention.

The Florida senator says Republicans should embrace and improve the legal immigration system and also come up with a balanced approach to the problem of illegal immigrants living in the U.S.

"We're not going to give amnesty to 12 million people. We are not going to round up and deport 12 million people. Somewhere between those two ideas is a solution," Rubio told reporters Wednesday. "But we're never going to get there as long as this is a heavy politicized issue that both parties use to attack each other on to raise money and win elections."

Rubio, considered an up-and-comer in the party, was chosen to formally introduce Mitt Romney before he accepts the presidential nomination Thursday night.

HOW DO YOU TURN THOSE THINGS ON?

Amid the laptops, iPads and computer screens in the Google space at the Tampa Convention Center lies a small newspaper rack, broken and forgotten.

While journalists mingle and drink coffee, the newspapers sit untouched in favor of the Google+ hangouts, cellphone charging stations and wireless Internet available.

Google and YouTube are partnering with many media outlets working from the convention center this week in their video studio, including PBS and The Washington Post. But the print versions of newspapers are largely ignored, at least by those spending time in the room.

RYAN'S CALLING

GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan plans to tell the Republican convention he accepts "the calling of my generation to give our children the America that was given to us, with opportunity for the young and security for the old."

Ryan gives his big convention speech Wednesday night. In excerpts released by the campaign, Ryan says he and Mitt Romney have a goal of generating 12 million new jobs over the next four years.

"We will not duck the tough issues ? we will lead. We will not spend four years blaming others ? we will take responsibility. We will not try to replace our founding principles, we will reapply our founding principles," Ryan says.

KASICH'S FEELING NOT MUTUAL

Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am called it dope on Twitter when the rover Curiosity beamed his new song "Reach for the Stars" from Mars to Earth. Not so much when Ohio Gov. John Kasich walked on stage at the Republican National Convention hours later Tuesday night to a snippet of the musician's song, "I Gotta Feeling."

Add to that Kasich's opening remarks: "You know, you know, I don't know about you, I don't about you but I've got a feeling, you know I gotta feeling ... that we're about to elect a new president of the United States of America."

To which will.i.am tweeted: "Hey Gov Kasich (hash)Igottafeeling that Ohio needed the auto bail out...(hash)unitedamericanotdivided let's educate our youth (hash)reachforthestars."

POLICE NOT SO BUSY

Many workers and residents seem comforted by the platoons of police roaming downtown during the convention, but at least one man isn't.

Donny Rhode stood on the edge of a park Wednesday in the spitting rain, holding a cardboard sign criticizing Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn. It said, "Generalissimo Buckhorn Declares Victory" and "Free Speech Dead."

Rhode was angry about the thousands of police deployed to Tampa for the convention. He wondered how much that cost taxpayers. And he said it resulted in fewer protests.

Clearly, the number of demonstrators in the city is far less than police anticipated, and they have been more peaceful than expected. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, only two protesters had been arrested.

Some anti-GOP protesters praised police officers, though they said their presence was perhaps more than needed.

"I haven't experienced one rude cop. They have been great," said Nick Sabatella, who came to Tampa from New York with Occupy Wall Street. "I walk by the cops and I say 'hi' and they say 'hi' back."

BEER AND BRATS

If it's beer and brats, it must be the Wisconsin party.

Paul Ryan and his wife, Janna, dropped in on his home state delegation's brewski and bratwurst feast Wednesday, but Ryan didn't have much to say.

"I've got to give this speech later on today so I'm going to keep it brief and save my voice," he joked.

Ryan's big moment ? a speech that will introduce him to millions of Americans as the party's vice presidential nominee ? comes Wednesday night.

ROMNEY PREVIEW

Around the 2012 Republican National Convention and its host city with journalists from The Associated Press bringing the flavor and details to you:

Mitt Romney is previewing the sorts of choice words for President Barack Obama that are likely to show up in his acceptance speech Thursday night.

Speaking to the American Legion in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Romney said leadership to protect the world's peace and freedom must come from the U.S.

"For the past four years, President Obama has allowed our leadership to diminish," he said. "In dealings with other nations, he has given trust where it's not earned, insult where it's not deserved and apology where it's not due."

___

OBAMA NOT WATCHING

White House press secretary Jay Carney says President Barack Obama hasn't watched any Republican convention speeches because "he has other things to do." Obama's campaign staff, however, has apparently been watching closely.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters on Air Force One Wednesday that a theme invoked by many convention speakers was "built on a house of lies." She specifically cited what she said were distortions of Obama's "you didn't build that" comment and his positions on Medicare and welfare.

Psaki praised Ann Romney's speech, saying she did "a great job" in telling the public about her relationship with her husband.

"She gave a very powerful speech about her husband and their family and the strength of their bond," Psaki said.

? Julie Pace ? Twitter http://twitter.com/jpaceDC

___

WHY SPOIL IT?

Vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan visited the convention stage to get used to the teleprompters, the lights and the sound while his three children played around at the podium.

The 42-year-old congressman from Wisconsin gives the biggest speech of his career so far on Wednesday night.

He asked aides where delegates from Wisconsin and Michigan would be sitting, as well as the location of running mate Mitt Romney's box.

"I'm going to point to them in my speech," Ryan said.

That's about all he gave away, even when reporters pestered him for a preview of his remarks.

"You'll find out tonight," he said. "Why would I spoil it now?"

? Julie Mazziotta

___

ISAAC LOOMS

Even though Isaac has moved beyond Florida, the hurricane's still having an impact on the Republicans meeting in Tampa.

Presidential nominee Mitt Romney is considering a visit to hard-hit Gulf Coast areas after the storm passes.

Convention activities on Monday were canceled because of the approaching storm, but GOP officials say they have no plans to make further changes to the schedule.

Still, as rain and flooding in New Orleans and surrounding areas intensifies, there is increasing media coverage of the storm, threatening to overshadow the convention events surrounding Romney's nomination. His acceptance speech is set for Thursday night.

Many speakers Tuesday night mentioned the hurricane at the beginning of their remarks, and the top of the official convention page features a promotion for Red Cross relief efforts.

ROMNEY'S EVENING

After returning from Indiana on Wednesday evening, the newly nominated Mitt Romney is expected to be "down" at his hotel watching the convention proceedings on TV with his wife, Ann. That's according to spokesman Rick Gorka, who says he doesn't know whether Romney might visit the convention floor later in the evening.

Will Romney make another surprise appearance at the convention on Wednesday night next to his running mate, Paul Ryan?

Yahoo Web Hosting Review ? Yahoo Hosting Coupons ? Free ...

Description

http://www.howtomakeawebsite.tv This is a video created by HowToMakeAwebsite.tv about the pros of using Yahoo Web Hosting. Need a coupon? Click on the link.

Yahoo started offering web hosting around 2002 and has become one of the largest web hosting companies on the Internet. Yahoo web hosting caters to a new crowd of fresh online entrepreneurs with it?s excellent hosting plans. Yahoo web hosting offers excellent tools and features that make them stand out in my opinion.Yahoo web hosting comes at a reasonable price. They are not the cheapest web hosting company but they do give you a lot of bang for your buck. There uptime is unmatched from all my tests. I have been using them for years and never had my website crash or down for any reason. It?s powered using the same infrastructure as their search engine so you can be assured that down time won?t be a big issue. Furthermore, Yahoo is connected with a redundant connections so if one of their Internet connections goes down, the other will quickly replace it making your site difficult to go down. In other words, it gives your site more redundancy. Since having an account with them for six months, we never experienced downtime.

Powerful Strategies to Deliver Traffic to Your Internet Web site

convert WMV to MP4

You probably have a web site all that you must do is locate strategies to extend traffic to it to make it a grand success. As you realize it the primary and the vital factor in doing that is to generate content that?s interesting to the reader. After this part is taken care of there are another factors which play a job in bringing traffic. They are:

Find ways to improve the rating of the web site in the search engine end result pages. You are able to do this by rising the number of key phrases in the content. The other name for this process is search engine optimization. If a user sorts the keyword in the search engine he?ll get your site in the search engine rating if the content on the positioning contains the density of the keyword. So just remember to discover the most sought after keyword and in addition be certain that to repeat it a number of times in the articles. Additionally keep in mind to not bore the reader with too many repetitions of the keyword. The same key phrase also needs to be current in the code in the type of Meta tags. This helps the search engine to find your site easily.

Hire a proof reader. Ensure that there are not any spelling and grammatical mistakes as they spoil the fame of the positioning and other people won?t think about visiting your site. Do not favor utilizing the content generators. Instead have your personal team of writers writing for you. This can give extra interesting content than the software generated content. Additionally make it a point to be original. It is because the search engines have become smarter sufficient to catch copied content and your rating goes severely down if in case you have some copied content on your site.

Another strategy to get some traffic to the web site is getting some back links. Contemplate buying and selling links with different sites. Find out different web sites which are of the same subject or subject of that of yours. Try buying and selling some links with them. This can make it easier to bring extra traffic to your web site. They are also called two method links. You should place a link of theirs on your web site and they?ll do the same on their web site. So the visitors coming to their site would possibly come to yours and the visitors out of your site could go to them. But do not forget that in case you provide links to a site with bad fame then it should spoil your good reputation. Suppose twice earlier than becoming a member of your hand with anybody. You can even trade with some banner ads and in addition classifieds.

This manner there are a whole lot of ways to generate some traffic to the web site that you?ve created. All that you must do is constantly consider new ways to generate traffic to the web site to make it an enormous success.

Swiftkey launches Swiftkey Analytics to VIP's, want to analyze how you interact with the app

Android Central

SwiftKey is somewhat of a favorite around these parts, and already this week we've been treated to an update filled with new features and themes. Today though, for their VIP Forum's members anyway, comes the opportunity to help the developers in their work by downloading the SwiftKey 3 Analytics app. In essence, this is the same great SwiftKey 3 keyboard but that submits anonymous mathematical data to the developers.

The data collected will indicate how a user interacts with the keyboard and its predictions and analyze typing habits. SwiftKey isn't any old two-bit developer either, so when they say this is all anonymous and mathematical, and that no text entered is transmitted, we're pretty much inclined to believe them. The service is time limited until Sep 25, and entirely voluntary. 5 lucky VIP's who take part will also win themselves some swag. And we all love swag, don't we? If you want to take part and help SwiftKey shape the future of their app, head on over to the VIP forums and grab it now and read up some more.

Will Romney's veep choice help focus the rhetoric on 'big issues?'

There has been a lot of (hopeful) talk in the past week that Romney's choice of Paul Ryan, a so-called "thinker" in the Republican party, will lead to more substantive debate. But Robert Reich thinks?Romney?s choice won?t usher in a ?real debate? about much of anything.

By Robert Reich / August 18, 2012

Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks with the press during a flight to Hyannis-Barnstable Municipal airport for fundraising events on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012, in Hyannis, Mass. But will the tenor and focus of the debate change, now that Paul Ryan has joined the ticket?

Evan Vucci/AP

I keep hearing that Mitt Romney?s pick of Paul Ryan ?enables the country to have the debate it needs to have,? or ?permits us to have a grownup discussion,? or ?finally presents America with a real choice.? The?New York Times?oped page proclaims: ?Let the Real Debate Begin!?

Skip to next paragraph Robert Reich

Robert is chancellor?s professor of public policy at the University of California at Berkeley. He has served in three national administrations, most recently as secretary of labor under President Clinton. Time Magazine?named him one of the 10 most effective cabinet secretaries of the last century. He has written 13 books, including ?The Work of Nations,? his latest best-seller ?Aftershock: The Next Economy and America?s Future," and a new?e-book, ?Beyond Outrage.??He is also a founding editor of the American Prospect magazine and chairman of Common Cause.

Debate? What debate??

Romney isn?t even standing by Ryan?s budget plan. He?s been distancing himself from it from the moment he tabbed Ryan for the ticket.? ?I?m the one running for President,? he keeps saying in response to reporters? questions about whether he agrees with Ryan.

Not even Ryan will say publicly what the Romney economic plan entails. ?We haven?t run the numbers yet,? he repeats ? as if there were numbers in the Romney plan to run. But the numbers in Romney?s plan are like the numbers in Romney?s tax returns ? they?re invisible to anyone who might have an interest in knowing.?

But even if Romney were to adopt Ryan?s budget plan intact we still wouldn?t have a real debate because Ryan?s own plan itself lacks specifics that add up.

None of the budgets Ryan has come up with as chair of the House Budget Committee indicate which tax loopholes he?d close and exactly which programs for lower-income Americans he?d eliminate in order to balance the budget.

Ryan claims that his revenue targets can be met by ?broadening the tax base,? but he hasn?t said how he?d do it.??He?s insisted on keeping two of the biggest loopholes that overwhelmingly favor the wealthy ?the preferential tax rates on capital gains and dividends.

In fact, Ryan?s budget is larded with so much defense spending and so many tax cuts for the wealthy that it doesn?t even lower the debt ? when exposed to realistic assumptions.?

It baldly assumes that tax cuts for the rich will generate revenues totaling 18.4 percent of the economy over the next decade. That?s supply-side nonsense. When the non-partisan?Tax Policy Centerlooked at Ryan?s budget plan, it calculated that revenues would average only 16.3 percent over the decade ? $4 trillion less.

Under that revenue estimate, Ryan?s budget would increase debt as a share of the economy for more than four decades ? pushing the public debt to over 175 percent of GDP by 2050.

We can?t even have a clear debate about programs like Medicare, because Romney and Ryan seem determined to sow as much confusion as possible about their proposed voucher system. (At least Romney says his own approach to Medicare is ?almost identical? to Ryan?s.)

They?ve been charging all week that President Obama?s Affordable Care Act ?robs? Medicare of more than $700 billion over the next decade. In reality, the Romney-Ryan plan saves exactly the same amount. But it does so by shifting costs to seniors whose vouchers won?t keep up with the projected cost of health care. Obama?s savings come from reduced payments to medical providers.

What?s really driving Medicare costs ? as well as future federal budget deficits ? is the increasing costs of health care overall, combined with aging boomers. But don?t expect a debate over how to reign in healthcare costs because Romney and Ryan haven?t put forward a healthcare plan. All they want to do is repeal the Affordable Care Act, leaving 50 million Americans without health insurance coverage.

We won?t have a clear debate over whether to raise tax rates on the wealthy because Romney and Ryan are sticking to the conservative bromide that the wealthy and big corporations need more tax cuts in order to create jobs ? even though America?s top earners are now taking home more of the nation?s income than they have in eighty years, and corporations are sitting on more than a trillion dollars of cash they don?t know what to do with.

We won?t even have a debate over how to prevent another meltdown of Wall Street or a taxpayer bailout of ?too-big-to-fail? banks because Romney and Ryan don?t have a plan for preventing another Wall Street crisis. All they want to do is repeal the Dodd-Frank act.

Romney?s choice of Ryan won?t usher in a ?real debate? about much of anything except, perhaps, the danger to our democracy of billionaires like casino-magnate Sheldon Adelson (whose blessing Ryan immediately sought this week) who are pouring tens of millions of dollars into negative advertising. (Adelson alone has committed $100 million of his fortune.)

Those negative ads, by the way, are making it all the harder for average Americans to sort out the truth from well-financed big lies ? and understand, let alone debate, the big issues this election year.

Wright electrifies Bolts with INT return

SAN DIEGO (AP) ? Shareece Wright's electrifying 73-yard interception return set up Jackie Battle's go-ahead, 2-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter, and backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst threw two touchdown passes as the San Diego Chargers rallied from a dismal start to beat the Dallas Cowboys 28-20 on Saturday night.

The Chargers (2-0) overcame three turnovers, including two interceptions by Philip Rivers, to rally from a 10-0 deficit. The Bolts have five turnovers in two exhibitions.

Cornerback DeAndre Presley deflected a pass from Cowboys third-string quarterback Stephen McGee, and Wright plucked the ball out of the air. He ran down the right sideline before cutting the middle of the field before he was dragged down by John Phillips at the 2-yard line. After an incompletion by Whitehurst, Battle bulled into the end zone to give the Chargers their first lead of the night, 14-13.

The Cowboys (No. 15 AP Pro 32) will remain in San Diego for joint practices with the Chargers (No. 16) on Monday and Tuesday.

Wright also sacked McGee and forced a fumble that Darryl Gamble recovered.

Whitehurst played well after replacing Rivers. He started the Chargers' comeback with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Brown on the first drive of the second half. Brown broke his left ankle on the play and was carted off the field.

The Chargers got some breathing room midway through the fourth quarter when Whitehurst hit rookie Mike Willie on a 38-yard touchdown pass for a 21-13 lead. Jacob Hester added a 4-yard touchdown run with 3:02 left.

Dallas closed to 28-20 in the final minute on Rudy Carpenter's 15-yard scoring pass to Dwayne Harris.

Brandon Carr had two interceptions for the Cowboys (1-1). Carr's first pickoff, of Rivers' badly underthrown pass to Robert Meachem, set up a drive capped by Jamize Olawale's 2-yard touchdown run for a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. Kyle Orton, who replaced Tony Romo after two series, had a 35-yard completion to Kevin Ogletree.

Romo led the Cowboys on a 12-play, 39-yard drive capped by Dan Bailey's 40-yard field goal late in the first quarter. The Cowboys were called for three penalties for 25 yards on the drive.

Bailey kicked a 49-yard field goal late in the third quarter for a 13-7 Dallas lead.

Besides Rivers' two interceptions ? one of which was tipped ? San Diego also had a fumbled snap.

Man Hospitalized For Cancer Found During Oakland Health Fair Exam

OAKLAND (CBS SF) ? More than 1,000 people attended an East Oakland church?s annual health fair Saturday to receive preventative health screenings and exams, according to event organizers from the Allen Temple Baptist Church.

The yearly health fair, which drew about 1,200 people Saturday to the church on International Boulevard, provides free health services including hypertension screenings and dental exams, cholesterol and prostrate exams to uninsured East Oakland residents.

During routine screenings at this year?s fair, one man was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, event organizers said.

The shocking diagnosis came during the Allen Temple Baptist Church?s 35th annual Free Holistic Health Fair at the East Oakland church at 8501 International Boulevard, according to organizers.

?It is these kinds of scenarios that demonstrate the need for community health fairs such as this one,? said Gloria Cox Crowell, one of the event organizers.

Saturday also marked the local church?s announcement that it will partner with three Oakland clinics ? La Clinica de la Raza, West Oakland Health Center and Lifelong Medical Care ? to found the Robert C. Scott Wellness Center.

The new health center will be named after a late local physician who was committed to providing health care for all patients, regardless of their ability to pay for that care, according to church spokeswoman Sandra Varner.

Addressing the health disparities in East Oakland is an ongoing mission of the church?s Health Education Ministry, Varner said.
