Korean Palace | Riyadh Eats Restaurant Review Guide

Korean Palace Restaurant is one of the long-standing restaurants in Riyadh with loyal patrons over the years. Its original location was once situated along King Fahad Road but earlier last year, they closed their doors and most of us were left wondering where it went and if it will ever come back.

Just two months ago, their restaurant sign resurfaced along Takhasoussi St and my family and I were eager to finally have a taste of their food once again.

See, the most popular thing going for Korean Palace is their all-you-can-eat Thursdays. Come post-Maghrib prayer and you will find their long tables filled with the best of their selected cuisine. From their delectable appetizers made of their famous Kimchi, pickled cucumbers and steamed pumpkins, to their sushi and sashimi selection, to the notable noodle viands like Jjampong and Chinese stir-fried noodles, to their seafood and vegetable tempura, to the rest of the Asian culinary staples (like sweet and sour chicken, beef sauteed in oyster sauce and chopsuey). You need to pace yourself though. Try not to be over-seduced by the multitude of meals ready for the taking.

If you want to enjoy the experience, every seasoned ?eat-all-you-can expert? knows that the key to making the most of it is to take your time. At 120SR per plate, you can definitely make your stay worthwhile. And it would be best if you had friends and family with you to make that prolonged stay in Korean Palace worth it. A special tip: Come by early for the Thursday buffet, it begins right after the 6PM prayer. Once you get the early start, you?ll get the first dibs on the food and wouldn?t risk having to wait for the second batch of food to come in should you arrive late instead. It takes a little while for them to refill the sushi and sashimi and the sizzling meat dishes, so if you don?t want an interrupted eat-all-you-can experience, then I highly suggest you get there as early as you can.

Korean Palace was never famous for its extravagant interiors so don?t expect a dazzling ambience. It?s a decent place with enough color red to let you realize that you?re in a Korean restaurant. The service is standard with a few exceptional waiters who have been working there for more than a decade (including the manager).

The real gem of this place is their food. It?s simple, tasty and true to expected Korean form, sometimes even rising above it. It wouldn?t have thrived all these years in Riyadh if their food weren?t any good; it?s the main reason people keep coming back! (Loyal favorites are the Korean Sizzling Chops and the Jjampong noodles). And I don?t mean this just for the Asian expatriates, but they actually do have a loyal following from Saudis and other Middle Eastern nationalities (even Westerners too). My last piece of advice before going here is this: Remember Korean food is known to be spicy for the most part, so if your palette isn?t at par with anything on the Scoville scale, then proceed with caution, and notify the waiter to point you to the dish that won?t burn your tongue (i.e., the crab and corn soup or spring rolls). Masitkke Deuseyo! (Korean way of saying ?Bon Apetit!?)
