HAMPTON ? The owners of Ocean Gaming are once again asking voters to allow bingo and Lucky 7 to be played in the town of Hampton.
For the second year in a row, the Hampton Beach business filed a petition warrant article that will go before voters in the March town election.
Last year, voters rejected a warrant article to allow both games in town by a vote of 1,533 to 1,501.
?This year I am reaching out to all our Hampton-based charities and supporters for help,? said Peter Anzalone, director of Ocean Gaming, which operates under the state's charitable gaming law, offering craps, roulette and blackjack. ?This is not to just about bringing bingo to Ocean Gaming. This is about bringing bingo to the entire town.?
While both games are legal in New Hampshire, the town has never adopted the state statute that regulates both games.
The article simply asks the town to adopt the provisions of RSA 287-E to allow the games to be played legally.
Anzalone blamed misinformation for the defeat of the article last year. Prior to the election, the ?yellow sheet? voting guide sent to voters by the Concerned Taxpayers of Hampton stated a yes vote would mean expanded gambling.
?It didn't even mention the word bingo,? said Anzalone said. ?The fact is Hampton is one of only a few towns that do not allow bingo.?
Allowing bingo to be played in Hampton, Anzalone said, will benefit any charitable organization willing to get licensed by the N.H. Racing and Charitable Gaming Commission.
Charitable gaming is New Hampshire's legalized version of gambling. There is a $4 bet limit per game, and 35 percent of the proceeds must go to charity.
